Craters of the moon is a bizarre place!! It is a 50+ mile lava flow that creates a desolate and rough black landscape. Though there are some tough plants and an occasional chipmunk, but that's about it. We hiked up the big cinder cone and walked around the splatter cones. Most if the paths are paved and every sign has the same conservation message. Stay on the trail! Lava flows are fragile! Keep off! No rock collecting! Stop pollution to save this natural landscape! We are beginning to feel unwelcome! Regardless, we had a great camp out despite the rain. The girls found a fort and moved a bunch of lava rock to make it more homey! We went hiking through some of the lava tubes. The girls love spelunking! We highly recommend this stop- especially if you get a cool day like we did.

Ali: I liked climbing the rocks and building the rock palace.
Dad: I liked watching Ali catch the rainbow.
Mom: I liked the view from our campsite.
